Aristotle and Plato's thinking activity..
HOW FAR DO YOU AGREE WITH Plato's OBJECTION TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND ARTISTIC LIBERTY ENJOYED BY CREATIVE WRITERS? NAME THE TEXT, NOVELS, PLAYS, POEMS, MOVIES, TV SOAPS ETC. WHICH CAN BE RIGHTFULLY OBJECTED TO PLSTO'S OBJECTIONS?
ANS : I am gonna say if we talk about the literature of Plato and Aristotles time, Plato was wrong, we know that Plato was totally against poetry, according to him, It was twice removed from reality, it is inspirational and not rational, it was written in the state of franzy, it leads to the arousal of emotions which is inappropriate and harmful, poets are liars. According to Aristotle poetry represents reality in a very useful way from which we can learn.
FOR EXAMPLE,
1) William Shakespeare, in his drama, Hamlet describes how Hamlets indecisiveness leads him to his dawn fall.
2) Rudyard Kipling, in his poem If, is a father's attempt to provide his son with specific values to live by in life.
There are some best examples of movies also,
1) The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock, is a biographical sports drama based on the 2006 book THE BLIND SIDE, shows us how a homeless teenager Michal was saved an taken care of by an upper class white family who sports him to achive his dream.
2) 3 Idiots, movie about life, friendship and achieving goals.
All this are great examples of the creative works in which the creator didn't missused freedom of expression and artistic liberty, but now are days we can see there are some writers, TV shows, Novelists, who misuses the freedom of expression and artistic liberty, For Example,
On Netflix there are many shows like Sacred Games, Four More Shots, which represents nudity shamelessly, there are some TV shows in which we don't find any kind of moral and meaning, for example, Big Boss, the show has nothing no plot, no good charecters we can say it's just a west of time.
2)WITH REFERENCE TO THE LITERARY TEXTS YOU HAVE STUDIED DURING B. A. PROGRAM, WRITE A BRIEF NOTE ON THE TEXT WHICH FOLLOWED ARISTOTALIAN LITERARY TRADITION. ( HIS CONCEPT OF CATHARSIS, TRAGIC HERO WITH HAMARTIA ETC.)
ANS : ARISTOTLE'S concept of tragedy :
* plot is the soul of tragedy,
* plot is the structure of the play around which the material parts are laid, just as the soul is the structure of a man,
* tragedy have beginning, climax or crises and end,
* Hamartia is also important in tragedy, it means an error which is derived from ignorance of some fact or circumstances, I is often translated as ' Tragic Flaw',
* tragic hero, neither an outright Saint nor an utterly hopeless wicked criminal, but a representative of the normal human beings in its emotive capacity.
HAMLET BY WILLIAM SHAKES
In B.A. I studied William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Hamlet is the protagonist of the who comes to know about his father's sudden death and his mother Gurtrudes hasty marrige with his uncle Claudius, his father's ghost tells him that his own brother and Hamlets uncle, Claudius killed him but Hamlet gets confused and over thinks everything and becomes reason of many people's death such as his love Ophelia dies because he hurted her feelings, he accidentally killed Ophelias father Polonius, he killed His Mother and Uncle and At the end he also dies during the sword fight between him and Ophelias brother Laertes.
HAMLET AS ARISTOTALIAN TRAGEDY :
The plot Of Hamlet has Beginning, climax an end, the play begins with the conversation of guards who were talking about the dead kings ghost and Hamlets arrival the palace and then he meets the ghost and tries to find ou whether the ghost is really his father's ghost or some evil soul then after thinking too much he meets with a tragic end, here Hamlets HAMARTIA is his indecisiveness which makes him tragic hero.
4) HAVE YOU STUDIED ANY TRAGEDIES DURING B.A. PROGRAM? WHO WAS /WHERE THE TRAGIC PROTEGONIST IN THOSE TRAGEDIES? WHAT WAS THEIR HAMARTIA?
ANS : I studied Shakespeare's one of the most popular tragedies, Hamlet.
In Hamlet, Hamlet is the PROTEGONIST, he comes to know about his father's sudden death and he has daubt that his uncle is the killer of his father, even the ghost of his father tells him everything how he was murderd by his own brother Claudius he also daubts about the ghost reliability and over thinks and his indecisiveness becomes his Hamartia and makes him tragic hero.
Hamlets Hamartia was his indecisiveness.
5) DID THE PLOT OF THOSE TRAGEDIES FOLLOW NECESSARY RULES AND REGULATIONS PROPOSED BY ARISTOTLE ( CHAIN OF PROBABILITY AND NECESSITY, HARMONIOUSR ARRANGEMENTS OF INCIDENTS, COMPLETE, CERTAIN MAGNITUDE, UNITY OF TIME)
ANS: yes the plot of Hamlet followed rules and regulations presented by Aristotle, we see the play opens with the dead kings arrival which makes a great effect in the lives of many charecters such as Hamlet finds out his father was killed, Ophelia becomes mad because of Hamlets harsh words and drowms herself to death, Polonius gets killed by Hamlet accidentally, Hamlet pretends as Mad to find out whether the ghost was right about the death of king Hamlet, all thi actions takes place in the palace of Denmark we see each events reaction affects other charecters and leads the readers to ends all the situations are full of chaos and confusion. ⇀↿HOW FAR DO YOU AGREE WITH Plato's OBJECTION TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND ARTISTIC LIBERTY ENJOYED BY CREATIVE WRITERS?
